Recording Instructions

It is often helpful for us to have a baseline recording of your voice we can access throughout your time in therapy. Your initial voice evaluation includes professional computerized analysis of your voice. Please follow these steps to create and send in a recording:

Please eliminate all background noise and record in a quiet room. You can record using a headset microphone placed 2” from your mouth, or if using the microphone embedded in a mobile phone, place that 12” from your mouth. You may use any recording application or software, but we prefer .wav files for ease of analysis. These can be recorded for free at https://voice-recorder-online.com/

Please send a (single) file of yourself saying the following:

1. “ah” for as long as you can go at a comfortable pitch

2. “ah” from low to high then from high to low (only demonstrate your physically and emotionally comfortable range)

3. “We were away a year ago.”

4. “When sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. These take the shape of a long, round arch, with its path high above and its two ends apparently beyond the horizon. There is, according to legend, a boiling pot of gold at one end."

5. Speak for a minute about how you feel about your voice.

Please save the file with a name you can easily find again (voice before therapy, for example). You may upload it to the secure Google Drive file (link provided by your SLP) or email it to us.
